Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) is the governance token of the Axie Infinity ecosystem, developed by Sky Mavis. AXS is used for governance, staking, ecosystem payments and as the reserve asset backing Bonded AXS (bAXS) on a 1:1 basis. Staked AXS contributes to voting power in the Axie Governance Portal, while bAXS is used for a growing share of player rewards and in-game activities. AXS can also be used for functions such as breeding, ascension, evolution, forging and marketplace purchases. Sky Mavis launched Axie Infinity in 2018, with Trung Nguyen and Aleksander Larsen among its co-founders, and worked with Delphi Digital on the design of the AXS token model.
